13th Year of Special Camp for Burn Injured Children
CHARLESTON, SC -- The Medical University of South Carolina Children's Hospital and South Carolina Firefighters are proud to announce the 13th Annual Camp 'Can' Do. Children from across South Carolina and neighboring states will attend the four-day camp designed especially for children who have suffered a severe burn injury.
WHAT: A free camp for children who have suffered a severe burn injury. While some activities have been modified to accommodate this group’s specific needs, the camp is designed to allow the children to have fun, build self-esteem, and develop friendships with others who have experienced similar injuries.
WHO: Over 50 children ages 6-17 with a history of burn injury from throughout South Carolina. We also welcome campers from our neighboring states of Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina where a burn camp may not be available. Returning campers who have moved from the state return each year from such places as Alabama, Illinois, and New York.
Community volunteers include firefighters, MUSC Children’s Hospital staff and Pediatric Burn Team members, adult burn survivors, students, and other individuals committed to supporting the recovery of burn injured children.
WHEN: Camp Dates are June 28 to July 2, 2009. Media Day will be held Wednesday, July 1, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., during our annual Firefighter Games and Carnival in the Field.

Camp 'Can' Do is sponsored by MUSC Children's Hospital Pediatric Burn Services and South Carolina Firefighters who support the special needs of burn injured children.
