I chose MUSC because of the people! The amount of information that we need to learn in residency is made possible by the people we work with(residents, attendings, and patients). A positive working environment makes it all possible!

MUSC was my number one choice for residency for several reasons: strong pediatric program with a great Children's Hospital, supportive faculty, and many research opportunities. Charleston has been a part of our family for many years--my husband and I cannot think of living anywhere else.

I chose MUSC because it was the best combination of what I was looking for. I liked that the hospital draws from a large geographical area and sees a high volume and wide variety of patients. I also like the size of the resident classes, the city of Charleston and the attendings that I met when I was here. The faculty at my medical school also had good things to say about the faculty that they knew here at MUSC.

Jason Buckley, MD University of South Florida College of Medicine Farmingville, New York
I chose to come to MUSC because of the friendly environment that the people at MUSC create, and because the residency program seemed to provide everything I was looking for (eg, moderatly large, diverse patient population, autonomy in patient management, exposure to subspecialties). As importantly for me was the city of Charleston which provides ample opportunities for chillaxin' (chillin' + relaxin').

How could I think of coming anywhere else?! A program that will empower me to become a confident, capable pediatician in a city that I love. It doesn't get any better.

I chose to do my residency here for 2 main reasons. First, I'm from Charleston and absolutely love it; it's hard to imagine calling anywhere else home. Second, after going to medical school here I realized you couldn't ask for a better group of people to work with. Despite the large patient volume at MUSC, you'll find attendings who consistenly make education a priority and residents who are always available to support one another.

I chose MUSC because of the personalities of the residents on my interview, the fact that it is a children's hospital with almost all subspecialties, and my wife loves the city of Charleston.

I decided to come to MUSC because it reminded me of the children's hospital in Norfolk. It has the close-knit family feel, but offers the benefits of a bigger academic institution and higher acuity of patient population. I'm currently interested in a Neonatology fellowship but this is not set in stone. I would like to become the best general practitioner I can be here at MUSC. It is one of the main reasons this was my #1 instead of the Hopkins and Stanfords where the general practitioner education is lost.

Sarah Majstoravich, MD Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University
Choosing MUSC was a feeling that I couldn't shake. I visited several great programs but MUSC felt like my second home. The staff was a close knit family and I knew I would enjoy working and learning with them. I remember one intern post-call that had been working non-stop and who still showed up to the applicant dinner, not haggard, but with a smile on her face. Meeting her made me realize that my first intern year might be tough, but also enjoyable. The other great perk is Charleston itself with the beaches, restaurants, shopping and the arts. I couldn't have dreamed of a better place to spend the next three years!

I really liked all of the residents that I had worked with as a student and felt that the program offered great exposure to a lot of different disease processes as well as patient populations.

Why I like it here: besides the beaches, and London-like scenery (excluding of course the high humidity!), the people here are extremely nice and always willing to help. It is indeed one big happy family!

I chose MUSC because of the large volume of patients that could provide a rich source of information and hands-on training and experience. In addition, I was also looking for a program that will keep my interest in the pursuit of a fellowship and will offer me the opportunity to share and add onto my knowledge through good clinical care, teaching, and research.

Kristen Payne, DO Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine
I chose MUSC because all of the housestaff seemed to genuinely get along and support each other. Also, all of the attendings I encountered seemed to be very interested in teaching and open to any changes that would foster a better learning environment. Everyone I encountered at MUSC during the interview process was extremely friendly and helpful.

When I was looking into locations for residency, I started looking in the southeast to be close to my boyfriend who is in the army and stationed at Fort Stewart outside of Savannah, GA. When I started looking around, I came to Charleston and just fell in love with the program because it was the perfect size and all of the residents and attendings that I met were so welcoming, nice, and supportive. Then I explored the city of Charleston and just loved it. The decision was easy!

The faculty and residents had so much camaraderie while I was going through my medical school rotations at MUSC that I knew I would enjoy it here. Plus, it would have been very hard for me to leave Charleston since it is surrounded by awesome beaches, waterways, and islands. Boats are always a good time in my opinion.
